After completing her undergraduate studies, Diana Mogrovejo, a Peruvian archaeologist, worked on projects in the Colca Valley and Chavin de Huantar in Inkawasi. During these projects, she realized the potential of technology in enhancing fieldwork and laboratory methodologies in archaeology. This realization led her to the Master’s program in Digital Archaeology at the University of York, England.
The decision to apply for the Chevening scholarship, a prestigious program funded by the British government, was not easy. The application process was a new territory for her, and the competition was fierce. However, with the support of Studies Planet, and a strong determination, she managed to navigate through the process and was accepted on her second attempt.
The journey to study abroad was filled with surprises. The application process required meticulous organization and preparation. The competition was intense, with candidates from various fields around the world bringing their vast experiences to the table. However, she remained undeterred and focused on her goal.
The application process took her two years in total. The Chevening essays, which required her to showcase her leadership experience, networking skills, and future motivations, were particularly challenging. However, with Lessly’s guidance (her mentor), she was able to improve her application and succeed in her second attempt.
Her application stood out among the rest due to her unwavering commitment and organization, especially during the challenging times of the pandemic. She believed in her capabilities and experiences, particularly her fieldwork experience in archaeology as a Peruvian. This self-belief played a crucial role in her success.
Goals and dreams
When asked what prospective scholarship applicants should consider, she emphasized the importance of clear goals and dreams. She also suggested that studying abroad should be seen as a two-way street, where one not only learns but also contributes.
Her personal journey was filled with enriching experiences. She particularly enjoyed the historical and cultural richness of York. However, the experience was not without its challenges. The fast-paced nature of the Master’s program and the cultural differences posed significant challenges. But she believes that Chevening scholars are chosen for their ability to adapt quickly to such challenging situations.
Despite the challenges, she successfully completed her Master’s program and secured the third position among all Chevening scholars. Her journey serves as an inspiring story of determination, perseverance, and self-belief.
